This blog discusses the Forge of the Chaos Dwarves DLC for Total War Warhammer III, which the author is shamelessly excited about. If you’d like to learn more about Total War Warhammer III, go check out our previous spotlight to learn why you should be playing it! Seriously, you should. With GeForce NOW Powered by Pentanet you can enjoy stellar strategy gaming experiences on any device. Like I’ve been on my work laptop during lunch, but don’t tell anyone 😜

Since Total War Warhammer, we’ve received plenty of race packs, DLC’s which add new playable races, with multiple unique legendary lords, into the mix. Chaos Warriors, Wood Elves, Beastmen, Tomb Kings, Norsca, Vampire Coast.

It’s not an exaggeration to say that a huge amount of content has been added to the series, and its series spanning game mode Immortal Empires (A mode which combines the content of all three games). But there’s always been one fans have asked for and heard nothing about. One which many considered a pipe dream, or a white whale...

Well! Put down your harpoon Ahab, because we’ve caught your Moby Dick! The Chaos Dwarves are here, and they are amazing! Combining the best aspects of the Dwarves (obviously), Dark Elves, and Skaven into a hyper-militant, hyper-capitalist, hyper-industrial nightmare.

The Chaos Dwarves represent a new kind of race pack for Total War, one that drastically changes the core gameplay tenets. They operate on a different economy to most other races, having to struggle to maintain a balance of gold, labourers, raw materials and armament production to expand their empire and see their forces dominate on the battlefield.

This drastic playstyle shift, which puts a much greater emphasis on settlement and campaign map management, is a breath of fresh air to the series. All races have their unique mechanics (some less so than others), but few so greatly overhaul the key systems the game operates on.

If you’ve tried Total War in the past and played it to exhaustion, this is your sign to dive back in. If you’re just sticking your toe in the waters, then for a campaign experience like no other I can’t recommend the Chaos Dwarves strongly enough. On the campaign map, and on the battlefield, they are such an infernal, hellish, delight.

Separated from their kindred way back during the age of the ancestors, the Chaos Dwarves (or Dawi Zharr, in Khazalid the tongue of the dwarves, which I’m quite proficient in thank you very much), were forced to survive through the tumult of chaos and ravages of ceaseless barbarian hordes. In the face of this hell, they decided “if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em” and so became the terrible, cruel servants of Hashut the father of darkness we know and fear today. Fielding their endless bastions of cruel artifice and infernal mechanised horrors, they leave the dark lands only rarely but when they do, the world shakes with the thunder of their guns.

I love my artillery, I love my gun lines. It’s no shock that I play a lot of Empire and Dwarves. Previously, when I wanted the ‘spicy’ gun lines, I’d play Skaven, with their high-powered gatling guns and cross map sniper rifles. However, I think the sheer spice (flavoured by the smoke of industry and tar of pollution) the Chaos Dwarves bring to the field might have finally displaced them. Their gun lines; are armoured melee fighters, their artillery; eat people, their monsters? Well...

They’re mecha-godzilla.

Take to the fields of war with the Chaos Dwarves today, with Forge of the Chaos Dwarves for Total War Warhammer III, available now. Play it at its best with GeForce NOW Powered by Pentanet. Total War is a stressful game, for your PC as much as for all of us armchair generals, take the heat out of your processor and into the forge by running the game through the cloud.
